Hey there,
We are Phillip and Gwendolyn, owners of Ossipee Hill Farm and Observatory. In November 2019 we suddenly decided to leave behind our life in South Texas, where Phillip worked as an engineer for SpaceX at the Boca Chica Launch site. He is originally from Sothern Maine, so we decided to retreat here for a little while to figure out our next move. Shortly after arriving we decided to stay and began searching for a home.
We looked at dozens of places and had deals fall through. In February 2020 we saw a listing for 20 acres of raw land for an affordable price, way more property than we ever imagined owning. We went to look at it, covered in a few feet of snow. Not even able to really see it, we knew we had to have it. By the end of March 2020, we were signing the papers for the land.
I think we all know what happened March 2020. The events of the pandemic made us more aware of food security and the supply chain. We decided that we needed to learn how to grow food ourselves. Then we decided we needed to grow food for our community too. That is how the farm was born.
Spring of 2022 an individual in the community reached out on a Facebook page asking for a good place to set up their 12-inch telescope. Phillip reached out to him and suggested our farm. Long story short, the man donated his telescope to us. Phillip and I both have back ground in the space industry, it made sense to bring our interest in space exploration to the farm. This is how the Astronomical Observatory began.
We have a lot of other things we want to evolve into, especially in the education and conservation realm. Keep following along and see what we grow to be!
